Whenever we go on our travels, we like to buy a souvenir, either as a personal memory or as a gift for someone we know. Granada has plenty of shops where you can buy souvenirs from but there is one particular area that is great for souvenir shopping.

Market Stalls In The Alcaiceria, Granada

Market Stalls In The Alcaiceria, Granada

The Alcaiceria was the old ‘Grand Bazaar’ district of Moorish Granada where you could buy silk, spices and jewelry. The current Alcaiceria is a smaller version of the old bazaar and Calle Alcaiceria is situated right in the middle of the old grand Bazaar. The architecture here is traditionally Moorish and beautiful. You can look from one side of the street to the other through the old arched entrance and this is a favorite spot for tourists to take photos.

Nowadays, you can find little shops and stalls selling souvenirs such as magnets, clothing, key-rings etc. The influence is still very Moorish and you will also be able to buy packets of tea in some of the shops. Some shops also have Moroccan-style stained glass lamps which could be a good idea for a souvenir to take back home. The area still feels very Moorish thanks to the architecture and the strong fragrances of tea and dried fruits that are sold around the market area.

The Alcaiceria is only a 10 minute walk from the hostel and is a must-see when you visit Granada. If you need help with directions or if you have any questions, feel free to ask us at reception.
